Neutron Electric Dipole Moment Experiment
A.1.a General Introduction Precision measurements of the properties of the neutron present an opportunity to search for violations of fundamental symmetries and to make critical tests of the validity of the Standard Model (SM) of electroweak (EW) interactions. These experiments have been pursued with great energy and interest since Chadwick [i] discovered the neutron in 1932. Searches for the e...
متن کاملCandidate molecular ions for an electron electric dipole moment experiment
This paper is a theoretical work in support of a newly proposed experiment R. Stutz and E. Cornell, Bull. Am. Soc. Phys. 89, 76 2004 that promises greater sensitivity to measurements of the electron’s electric dipole moment EDM based on the trapping of molecular ions. Such an experiment requires the choice of a suitable molecule that is both experimentally feasible and possesses an expectation ...

متن کاملIntrinsic electric dipole moments of paramagnetic atoms: rubidium and cesium.
The electric dipole moment (EDM) of paramagnetic atoms is sensitive to the intrinsic EDM contribution from that of its constituent electrons and a scalar-pseudoscalar (S-PS) electron-nucleus interaction. The electron EDM and the S-PS contributions to the EDMs of these atoms scale as approximately Z;{3}. Thus, the heavy paramagnetic atoms will exhibit large EDM enhancement factors. However, the ...
متن کاملDirac Electron in the Electric Dipole Field
Dirac equation for the finite dipole potential is solved by the method of the join of the asymptotics. The formulas for the near continuum state energy term of a relativistic electron-dipole system are obtained analytically. Two cases are considered: Z < 137 and Z > 137 Dirac equation for Z > 137 is solved by usual method of cut-off potential at small distances.
